AWS Outposts

AWS Outposts is a hybrid cloud service offered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) that allows customers to run AWS infrastructure and services on-premises. AWS Outposts provides the same hardware and infrastructure that is used in AWS data centers, and the same software, APIs, and tools that customers use in the cloud, making it easy for customers to seamlessly extend their existing AWS environments to their own premises.

Use case:
  • Edge computing: AWS Outposts can be used for edge computing scenarios, where low latency and high bandwidth are required for processing and analyzing data at the edge of the network, before it is sent to the cloud.
  • Data sovereignty: AWS Outposts can be used to store and process sensitive or regulated data on-premises, meeting data sovereignty, privacy, and compliance requirements.
  • Disaster recovery: AWS Outposts can be used for disaster recovery and business continuity scenarios, providing a low-latency and high-bandwidth connection to the cloud in case of an outage or a disaster.
  • Hybrid cloud: AWS Outposts can be used to build hybrid cloud environments, seamlessly integrating on-premises resources and services with the cloud, and allowing customers to take advantage of the benefits of both.
Example:

A company has a large manufacturing plant that generates a large amount of data, such as sensor readings, video streams, and log files. The company wants to store and process this data in real-time, and also wants to access it from various applications and systems, both on-premises and in the cloud.

To meet these requirements, the company can use AWS Outposts to run AWS services, such as Amazon S3, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon EC2, and Amazon Redshift, on-premises in their manufacturing plant. This allows the company to store, process, and analyze the data in real-time, and also access it from various applications and systems, without having to send the data over the internet to the cloud.
